✧ A delegation from Bakr b. Wa'il came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When they finished their business, he said to them: 'Is there anyone among you who knows Quss b. Sa'ida al-Iyadi?' They said: 'Yes, all of us know him.' He said: 'What became of him?' They said: 'He died.' He said: 'I will never forget him at the market of Ukaz, in the sacred month, on a red camel, addressing the people, and he was saying: O people, gather, listen, and take heed. Everyone who lives dies, and everyone who dies is gone, and everything that is coming will come. Indeed, in the sky there is news, and indeed in the earth there are lessons: a spread bed, a raised roof, stars that move, seas that do not sink, and trade that does not perish. Quss swore truly: if in this matter there is contentment, there will surely be displeasure, and indeed Allah has a religion that is dearer to Him than the religion you are upon. Why do I see people going and not returning? Are they satisfied and staying, or left and sleeping?' Then he began to say: 'In the first ones who went from the generations, for us there are insights. When I saw watering places for death with no outlets, and I saw my people heading towards them, the elders and the young. The past does not return to me, and none of the remaining stay behind. I became certain that I will inevitably go where the people have gone.'
