حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: نَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ:

كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تُصَلِّي خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ، فَكَانَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ يَسْتَقْدِمُ فِي الصَّفِّ لِئَلَّا يَرَاهَا وَبَعْضُهُمْ يَسْتَأْخِرُ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ فَإِذَا رَكَعَ الْتَفَتَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فِي شَأْنِهَا: وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ

Translation

✧ There was a woman who prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was one of the most beautiful of people. Some of the people would come forward in the row so as not to see her, and some would lag behind in the back row. When he bowed, he would turn and look. Then Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed concerning her: 'And We know those who go forward among you, and We know those who lag behind.'
