وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ: نَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَذِنَ فِي ضَرْبِ النِّسَاءِ فَسَمِعَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ صَوْتًا عَالِيًا، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَسْمَعُ صَوْتًا عَالِيًا، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَذِنْتَ فِي ضَرْبِ النِّسَاءِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ، وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِي

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted the beating of women. Then he heard a loud voice at night and said, “I certainly hear a loud voice.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, you permitted the beating of women.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of you is the best of you to his family, and I am the best of you to my family.”
