حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، قَالَ: نَا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُجَاهِدًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ:

مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى قَبْرَيْنِ فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي كَبِيرٍ، أَمَّا هَذَا فَكَانَ يَمْشِي بِالنَّمِيمَةِ، وَأَمَّا هَذَا فَكَانَ لَا يَسْتَنْزِهُ مِنْ بَوْلِهِ، ثُمَّ دَعَا بِعَسِيبٍ رَطْبٍ فَجَعَلَ عَلَى هَذَا وَاحِدًا وَعَلَى هَذَا وَاحِدًا ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَعَلَّهُ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ passed by two graves and said: 'They are both being punished, and they are not being punished for anything major. As for this one, he used to spread malicious gossip; and as for this one, he did not protect himself from his urine.' Then he called for a fresh palm stalk and placed one on this grave and one on that, and said: 'Perhaps their punishment will be lightened as long as they do not dry.'
