✧ The people dispersed from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn, and no one remained with him except a man called Zayd, who was holding the bridle of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ gray mule. The Messenger of Allah said to him: "Woe to you! Call the people." So Zayd called out: "O people, this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ calling you," but no one came. He said: "Call the Ansar." So he called out: "O company of the Ansar, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is calling you," but no one came. He said: "Woe to you! Specifically call the Aws and the Khazraj." So he said: "O company of the Aws and the Khazraj, this is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ calling you," but no one came. He said: "Woe to you! Specifically call the Muhajirun, for I have a pledge in their necks." Buraydah narrated to me that a thousand of them came forward, having thrown aside their shields, until they reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they advanced on foot until Allah granted them victory.
