✧ The Prophet ﷺ sent two armies to Yemen, appointing Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ over one and Khalid b. al-Walid over the other. He told them: "If you are together, Ali is in charge of the people; if you separate, each of you is in charge of his own companions." We met the enemy, and the Muslims prevailed over the polytheists. We killed the warriors and took the offspring captive. Ali ؓ selected a woman from the captives for himself. Khalid b. al-Walid wrote to the Prophet ﷺ about that and sent the letter with me, and he commanded me to speak ill of Ali ؓ. When the letter was read to the Prophet ﷺ, I spoke ill of Ali ؓ. I saw anger on his face, and I said, "O Prophet of Allah, you sent me with a man and ordered me to obey him, so I did what I was sent to do." He said, "O Buraydah, do not disparage Ali, for he is from me and I am from him."
