✧ Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Abd al-Rahman b. Azhar

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: نَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: نَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَزْهَرَ، قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، وَعُثْمَانَ يُصَلِّيَانِ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَالْأَضْحَى، وَيَذْكُرَانِ أَوْ يَقُولَانِ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ

✧ I saw Ali b. Abi Talib and Uthman praying on the day of Fitr and Adha, and they mentioned or said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days.'
