✧ Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ, whenever reinforcements from the people of Yemen came to him, would ask them, “Is Uways b. Amir among you?” until he came upon Uways. He said, “Are you Uways b. Amir?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “From Murad, from Qaran?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Did you have leprosy that healed except for a spot the size of a dirham?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Do you have a mother?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Uways b. Amir will come to you with the reinforcements from the people of Yemen, from Murad, from Qaran. He had leprosy that healed except for a spot the size of a dirham. He has a mother and is devoted to her. If he were to swear an oath by Allah, Allah would fulfill it. So if you can get him to ask forgiveness for you, do so.’ So ask forgiveness for me.” So he asked forgiveness for him. Umar said to him, “Where do you intend to go?” He said, “Kufa.” He said, “Shall I write for you to its governor?” He said, “Being among the common people is more beloved to me.” He said, “The following year, a man from their nobles performed Hajj and met Umar, who asked him about Uways. He said, ‘I left him with a shabby house and few possessions.’ Umar said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Uways b. Amir will come to you with the reinforcements from the people of Yemen, from Murad, then from Qaran. He had leprosy that healed except for a spot the size of a dirham. He has a mother and is devoted to her. If he were to swear an oath by Allah, Allah would fulfill it. So if you can get him to ask forgiveness for you, do so.”’ So he went to Uways and said, ‘Ask forgiveness for me.’ He said, ‘You have just returned from a righteous journey, so ask forgiveness for me.’ He asked forgiveness for him. He said, ‘Did you meet Umar?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ So he asked forgiveness for him. Then people became aware of him, and he went on his way.” Usayr said, “I clothed him with a burda, and whenever anyone saw him, they would say, ‘Where did Uways get this burda?’”
