✧ We had thought the Messenger of Allah ﷺ slow in coming to us. The Anṣār used to go out to the edge of the Ḥarra and sit until the day grew bright; when the day grew bright and the sun became hot, they returned to their homes. ʿUmar said: While we were waiting for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a Jewish man pointed from one of their fortresses and cried out at the top of his voice: O assembly of Arabs, this is your companion whom you are waiting for. ʿUmar said: I heard the commotion among the Banū ʿAmr b. ʿAwf and went out through the gate, and there were the Muslims donning their weapons. I set out with the people at noon, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the right-hand path until he stopped among the Banū ʿAmr b. ʿAwf.
