✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ with two men from the Ash'aris, one on my right and the other on my left. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was using a siwak. Both of them asked for a position of authority. He said: O Abu Musa, or O 'Abd Allah b. Qays, we do not appoint to our work anyone who desires it. I said: By the One who sent you with the truth, they did not inform me of what was in their hearts, and I did not realize that they were seeking the position. It is as if I can see his siwak under his lip. He said: Go, you, O Abu Musa, or O 'Abd Allah b. Qays. He sent him to Yemen. Then he sent Mu'adh b. Jabal. When he arrived, he placed a cushion for him and said: Alight. There was a man with him bound. He said: What is this? He said: This man was a Jew, then he accepted Islam, then he reverted to his religion, the evil religion, and became a Jew again. He said: I will not alight until he is killed. He ordered it and he was killed. Then they discussed night prayer. Mu'adh said: As for me, I pray and I sleep, and I hope for in my sleep what I hope for in my standing.
