✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he entered one of the gardens of the Ansar and performed ablution. Then he came and sat on the edge of the well. Then he said: "O Abu Musa, guard the gate for me." A man asked permission to enter, and he said: "Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise." It was Abu Bakr ؓ, so he entered and praised Allah. The Prophet ﷺ seated him on his right. Then 'Umar ؓ asked permission, and he said: "Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise." He entered and he seated him on his left, and the edge of the well became full. Then 'Uthman ؓ asked permission, and he said: "Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that will afflict him." He entered, and the edge of the well had become full, so he sat facing them.
