✧ We were on a military expedition with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and whenever we ascended a hill or climbed a height—or he said: descended into a valley—we raised our voices with takbīr. The Messenger of God ﷺ drew near to us and said: “O people, be gentle with yourselves, for you are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent; you are only calling upon One who is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. Indeed, the One you call upon is closer to any one of you than the neck of his mount.” Then he said: “O ʿAbd Allah b. Qays, shall I not teach you a word that is one of the treasures of Paradise: There is no power and no strength except with God.”
