✧ The polytheists seized me and my father while we were heading to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Badr. They said: Where are you going? We said: To Madinah. He said: You intend [to join] Muhammad. So give us a covenant by Allah and His solemn pledge that you will not fight alongside him and that you will return to Madinah. We gave them what they wanted, so they let us go. Then we came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the news. He said: 'Fulfill your covenant with them, and we will seek Allah's help against them.' That is what prevented us from witnessing Badr.
