✧ Abu Wa'il from Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman

وَأَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَحْوَصُ بْنُ جَوَّابٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ قَرْمٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ؓ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

" أَحْصُوا لِي كَمْ تَلَفَّظَ الْإِسْلَامَ فَأَحْصَيْنَاهُمْ وَنَحْنُ مَا بَيْنَ السِّتِّمِائَةِ إِلَى السَّبْعِ مِائَةٍ، فَقُلْنَا: أَتَخَافُ عَلَيْنَا ؟ قَالَ: " إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ " فَابْتُلِينَا حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ الرَّجُلُ مَا يُصَلِّي إِلَّا مُسْتَتِرًا

✧ "Count for me how many have uttered Islam." So we counted them, and we were between six hundred and seven hundred. We said: "Do you fear for us?" He said: "Indeed you do not know." Then we were tested until a man would pray only while hiding.
