حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ:

اسْتَسْقَى دِهْقَانً، فَأَتَاهُ بِإِنَاءِ فِضَّةٍ فَضَرَبَ بِهِ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَتَدْرُونَ لِمَ صَنَعْتُ بِهِ هَذَا ؟ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ: نَهَى أَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِي الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، وَأَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ

Translation

✧ He asked a dihqan (village chief) for water, and he brought him a silver vessel. He struck his face with it and said: Do you know why I did this to him? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to eat from gold and silver, and to wear silk and brocade, for they are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.
