حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَاللَّفْظُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عِيسَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ؓ قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، إِذَا اتَّبَعَ جِنَازَةً لَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ فَعَرَضَ لِحَبْرٍ مِنْ أَحْبَارِ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالَ: هَكَذَا نَفْعَلُ، فَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ: " خَالِفُوهُمْ

Translation

✧ Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ followed a funeral procession, he would not sit down until the body was placed in the grave. Once, a Jewish rabbi came and said, "This is what we do." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down and said, "Do the opposite of them."
