وَأَخْبَرَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا قَيْسٌ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ شَابُورَ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ:
أَتَيْتُ سَلْمَانَ فَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ خُبْزًا وَمِلْحًا، وَقَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ نَتَكَلَّفَ لِلضَّيْفِ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا لَتَكَلَّفْتُ لَكَ
Translation

✧ I came to Salman, and he brought me bread and salt, and said: 'Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us to put ourselves to trouble for a guest with what we do not have, I would have put myself to trouble for you.'
