machine translationIts defect is Abū Ṣāliḥ, the scribe of al-Layth b. Saʿd, whose name is ʿAbdullāh b. Ṣāliḥ, for he has been criticized. In this narration the hadith is from the Musnad of ʿUmar, and in the first narration it is from the Musnad of Ibn ʿUmar. End of quote. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in the Kitāb al-ʿIlal: I asked my father about a hadith narrated by Abū Ṣāliḥ with it, and narrated by Zayd b. Jubayrah, and he said: both chains are very weak (wāhin). End of quote. The author of al-Tanqīḥ, may God have mercy on him, said: As for Abū Ṣāliḥ, the scribe of al-Layth, a group have declared him trustworthy (thiqah) and others have criticized him, and the correct view is that al-Bukhārī narrated from him in the Ṣaḥīḥ.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationAll of them are very feeble (wāhin).
