✧ What Abu Wa'il Shaqiq b. Salamah narrated from Abdullah

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَعْظَمُ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ طَعَامَكَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تُزَانِيَ بِحَلِيلَةِ جَارِكَ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ وَالَّذِينَ لا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي الْآيَةَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked: 'Which sin is the greatest?' He said: 'That you set up a rival to Allah when He created you.' He said: 'Then which?' He said: 'That you kill your child for fear that he will eat your food.' He said: 'Then which?' He said: 'That you commit adultery with the wife of your neighbor.' Then he recited: 'And those who do not call upon another god with Allah, nor kill the soul which...' the verse.
