✧ The first hadith of Alqamah, from Abdullah b. Mas'ud, from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ: نَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَخْلٍ مُتَوَكِّيًا، أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: عَلَى عَسِيبٍ، إِذْ عَرَضَ لَهُ يَهُودِيٌّ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الرُّوحِ، فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ بِرَأْسِهِ، فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ يُوحَى إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلا قَلِيلا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a palm grove, leaning — I think he said: on a palm stalk — when a Jew approached him and asked him about the spirit. He began to nod his head, and I thought that revelation was coming to him. Then he said: "They ask you about the spirit. Say: The spirit is from the command of my Lord, and you have not been given of knowledge except a little."
