✧ One night on the eve of Friday, I was in the mosque when a man from the Ansar came and said: 'If a man finds another man with his wife, and he speaks [about it], you would flog him; or if he kills, you would kill him; and if he remains silent, he remains silent upon rage. By Allah, I will ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' When the next day came, he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him, saying: 'If a man finds another man with his wife, and he speaks, you would flog him; if he kills, you would kill him; and if he remains silent, he remains silent upon rage. O Allah, open [a way].' He kept supplicating, and then the verse of li'an was revealed: 'And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves...' the verse. He said: 'That man was tested with it among the people.' He said: 'He came with his wife to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they performed li'an. The man testified four testimonies by Allah that he was indeed among the truthful, then invoked the curse the fifth time, that the curse of Allah be upon him if he was among the liars.' He said: 'She went to invoke the curse, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If she brings forth a black, curly-haired child, then it is for such and such." And she brought forth a black, curly-haired child.'
