machine translationMaʿmar narrated from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim, from Ibn ʿUmar: that ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, while he was standing delivering the sermon on Friday, mentioned the like of this exactly. He said at the end of it: "And ablution as well. And you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command ghusl." A group also narrated it from Ibn Shihāb in the same way, with a connected chain (musnad). There is disagreement about it from Mālik: the majority of his companions narrated it from him, from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim, that ʿUmar, as a mursal report; while some of them narrated it from him, from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim, from Ibn ʿUmar, that ʿUmar, as a connected report (muttaṣil).
