✧ What Muhammad b. Abi Bakr narrated from his father Abu Bakr

(م) - حَدَّثَنَا حَوْثَرَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمِنْقَرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: نَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ قَالَ: اشْتَرَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ مِنْ عَازِبٍ رَحْلًا بِثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ دِرْهَمًا فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لِأَبِي: قُلْ لِلْبَرَاءِ فَلْيَحْمِلْهُ إِلَى رَحْلِي، فَقَالَ: لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تُحَدِّثَنَاحِينَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنْتَ مَعَهُ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: خَرَجْنَا وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ يَطْلُبُونَ فَأَدْلَجْنَا لَيْلَتَنَا وَيَوْمَنَا حَتَّى أَظْهَرْنَا وَقَامَ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ فَذَهَبَ بَصَرِي هَلْ نَرَى مِنْ ظِلٍّ نَأْوِي إِلَيْهِ، فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِظِلِّ صَخْرَةٍ فَفَرَشْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِيهِ فَرْوَةً، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ: اضْطَجِعْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَاضْطَجَعَ، ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ أَنْظُرُ مَا حَوْلِي هَلْ أَرَى مِنْ طَلَبِ أَحَدٍ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَاعِي غَنَمٍ يَسُوقُ غَنَمَهُ إِلَى الصَّخْرَةِ يُرِيدُ مِنْهَا الَّذِي أَرَدْنَاهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ: لِمَنْ أَنْتَ يَا غُلَامُ ؟ قَالَ: لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَانْتَسَبَ حَتَّى عَرَفْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ: هَلْ فِي غَنَمِكَ مِنْ لَبَنٍ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قُلْتُ: فَهَلْ أَنْتَ حَالِبٌ لِي ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَأَمَرْتُهُ فَاعْتَقَلَ شَاةً مِنْ غَنَمِهِ، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتُهُ فَنَفَضَ ضَرْعَهَا مِنَ الْغُبَارِ، ثُمَّ أَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَنْفُضَ كَفَّيْهِ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ: قَالَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ: وَنَفَضَ إِحْدَى يَدَيْهِ بِالْأُخْرَى فَحَلَبَ لِي كُثْبَةً مِنْ لَبَنٍ وَقَدْ رَوِيتُ، وَمَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى فَمِهَا خِرْقَةٌ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَى اللَّبَنِ حَتَّى بَرَدَ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ: اشْرَبْ فَشَرِبَ حَتَّى رَضِيتُ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ: الرَّحِيلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَارْتَحَلْنَا وَالْقَوْمُ يَطْلُبُونَا فَلَمْ يُدْرِكْنَا أَحَدٌ غَيْرُ سُرَاقَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَلَى فَرَسٍ قُلْتُ هَذَا طَلَبٌ قَدْ لَحِقَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ:

لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللهَ مَعَنَا. حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَا مِنَّا وَكَانَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُ قَدْرُ رُمْحَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٍ، قُلْتُ: هَذَا الطَّلَبُ قَدْ لَحِقَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: وَبَكَيْتُ، فَقَالَ: لِمَ تَبْكِي ؟ قُلْتُ: أَمَا وَاللهِ مَا عَلَى نَفْسِي أَبْكِي وَلَكِنْ أَبْكِي عَلَيْكَ، فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنَاهُ قَالَ: فَسَاخَتْ فَرَسُهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَى بَطْنِهَا وَوَثَبَ عَنْهَا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ، وَنَادَى يَا مُحَمَّدُ: إِنَّ هَذَا أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: مِنْكَ أَوْ عَمَلُكَ فَادْعُ اللهَ أَنْ يُنَجِّيَنِي مِمَّا أَنَا فِيهِ، فَوَاللهِ لَأُعَمِّيَنَّ عَلَى مَنْ وَرَائِي مِنَ الطَّلَبِ، وَخُذْ سَهْمًا مِنِّي فَإِنَّكَ سَتَمُرُّ عَلَى إِبِلٍ لِي بِمَكَانِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَخُذْ مِنْهَا مَا شِئْتَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهَا فَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَانْطَلَقَ فَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ وَأَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَتَلَقَّاهُ النَّاسُ وَخَرَجَ النَّاسُ عَلَى الطُّرُقِ وَالنِّسَاءُ وَالْخَدَمُ فِي الطُّرُقِ يَقُولُونَ: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ جَاءَ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَتَنَازَعَهُ الْقَوْمُ أَيُّهُمْ يَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ: نَنْزِلُ اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى بَنِي النَّجَّارِ أَخْوَالِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ لِنُكْرِمَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَ فَغَدَا حَيْثُ أُمِرَ، قَالَ الْبَرَاءُ: وَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فِي عِشْرِينَ رَاكِبًا فَقُلْنَا: مَا فَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: هُوَ عَلَى أَثَرِي، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَمَا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى قَرَأْتُ سُوَرًا مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ. وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ رَوَى مِنْهُ شُعْبَةُ حَرْفًا وَهُوَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ شَرِبَ حَتَّى رَضِيتُ.

  29. Hadhā Ṭalab Qad Laḥiqanā Yā Rasūl Allāh

✧ "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." Until when he drew near to us and there was between us and him the distance of two or three spears, I said: "This pursuit has caught up with us, O Messenger of Allah." He said: And I wept. He said: "Why do you weep?" I said: "By Allah, I am not weeping for myself, but I weep for you." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated against him: "O Allah, suffice us against him." He said: His horse sank into the ground up to its belly, and he leaped off it to the ground, and he called out: "O Muhammad, I think this is from you or your doing, so supplicate to Allah to save me from what I am in. By Allah, I will mislead those behind me of the pursuit, and take an arrow from me, for you will pass by camels of mine at such and such a place, so take from them whatever you wish." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "I have no need of them." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for him, and he departed and returned to his companions. I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we reached Madinah, and the people met him, and men, women, and servants came out onto the roads saying: "Allah is greater; Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, has come." The people disputed which of them he would stay with, but the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "Tonight we will stay with Banu al-Najjar, the maternal uncles of Abd al-Muttalib, to honor them by that." Then he rose in the morning and went where he was commanded. Al-Bara said: The first to come to us was Umar b. al-Khattab with twenty riders, and we said: "What happened to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said: "He is on my track." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came, and before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived I had recited some surahs from the Mufassal. This hadith Shu'ba narrated from it a portion, namely that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drank until I was satisfied.
