✧ Umar b. al-Khattab asked permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ, while some women from Quraysh were with him, raising their voices above his. When Umar asked permission, they hurried to the screen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission, and Umar entered while the Messenger of Allah was laughing. Umar said: 'May Allah keep you smiling, may my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah; what made you laugh?' He said: 'I marveled at these women who were with me; when they heard your voice, they rushed to the screen.' Umar said: 'You, O Messenger of Allah, are more deserving that they should fear you.' Then Umar said: 'O enemies of your own selves, do you fear me and not fear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' They said: 'Yes, you are harsher and rougher than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O Ibn al-Khattab, by the One in whose hand is my soul, Satan never encounters you walking on a path except that he takes a path other than yours.'
