حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ مُفَرِّجٍ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ الرَّقِّيُّ، قَالَ: نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: / 294 - نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَا: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: نَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ:

أَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بَرِيرَةَ فَشَرَطُوا وَلَاءَهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اشْتَرِيهَا وَأَعْتِقِيهَا، فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ، وَأُتِيَ بِلَحْمٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ: هَذَا مِمَّا تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ، فَقَالَ: هُوَ لَهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ. وَخَيَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا حُرًّا.

✧ She wanted to buy Barīrah, but they stipulated her walāʾ (patronage). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Buy her and set her free, for walāʾ belongs to the one who sets free.” Some meat was brought to him, and it was said to him: “This is from what was given in charity to Barīrah.” He said: “It is charity for her and a gift for us.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her the choice, and her husband was a free man.
