✧ The Prophet ﷺ said to his wives: “The one with the longest hand among you will follow me (i.e., die first).” ʿĀʾishah said: After the death of the Prophet ﷺ, whenever we gathered in the house of one of us, we would stretch our hands against the wall, measuring ourselves. We continued doing that until Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh b. Riʾāb, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, passed away. She was a short woman and was not the tallest of us, so we knew then that by the length of the hand the Prophet ﷺ meant charity. She said: Zaynab was a woman with skillful hands; she used to work, sew – meaning she would work – and give charity in the path of Allah.
