✧ Quraysh lampooned (the Muslims). The Muslims came to Ka'b b. Malik and said: 'Respond on our behalf.' He said: 'Ask permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' They asked permission of the Messenger of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave permission. So he strove but did not achieve (the desired effect). Then they came to Hassan b. Thabit and invited him. Hassan came, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I fear that you may lampoon Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith.' Hassan said: 'I will pluck you from them as a hair is plucked from dough. Verily, I have a tongue (skill in poetry) such that I would not be pleased to have the tongue of anyone else in exchange for it.' Then he stuck out his tongue, as if it were the tongue of a snake, with a black mole at its tip. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission, and he cured, satisfied, and sufficed.
