A Jew said to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him): "If this verse had been revealed to us, the company of the Jews: {الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الإِسْلامَ دِينًا}, and we knew the day on which it was revealed, we would have taken that day as a festival." ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) said: "I know the place where it was revealed, and the day and the hour. It was revealed to the Messenger of God ﷺ while we were at ʿArafah, on the evening of a Friday."
