The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade continuous fasting (wiṣāl). A man from among the Muslims said to him: "But you, O Messenger of Allah, fast continuously!" He said: "And which of you is like me? I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and gives me drink." Then, when they refused to desist from continuous fasting, he fasted continuously with them for a day, then another day, then they saw the new moon. He said: "Had it been delayed, I would have added more for you." It was like a punishment for them, since they refused to desist.
