machine translationThere is disagreement about it with regard to ʿAṭāʾ. Rabāḥ b. Abī Maʿrūf, ʿUmar b. Qays and Muḥammad b. ʿAbdullāh al-Anṣārī (in the transmission of Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī from him, from Ibn Jurayj) all narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah, as raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ). Al-Mufaḍḍal b. Fuḍālah, Ismāʿīl b. ʿUlayyah, Muḥammad b. Bakr, ʿAbd al-Razzāq, Abū ʿĀṣim and Ḥammād b. Masʿadah narrated it from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah, as his own statement (mawqūf). Ibn Abī Ḥusayn and ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān also raised it, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Abū Hurayrah. There is also disagreement about ʿAmr b. Dīnār: Yūsuf b. Baḥr narrated it from Abū al-Naḍr Hāshim b. al-Qāsim, from Shuʿbah, from ʿAmr, from ʿAṭāʾ, from a man, from Abū Hurayrah, and raised it. Its text: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was cupped at al-Qāḥah while fasting and fainted, so on that day he forbade the fasting person to be cupped." Al-Naḍr b. Ismāʿīl and Ghundar said, from Shuʿbah, from ʿAmr, from ʿAṭāʾ, from a man, from Abū Hurayrah: "The one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fast," as mawqūf. Abū ʿĀṣim said, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAmr: it is related from Abū Hurayrah, as mawqūf. Layth b. Abī Sulaym narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿUrwah b. ʿIyāḍ, from ʿĀʾishah, from the Prophet ﷺ. The correct position is that of those who made it mawqūf on Abū Hurayrah, because they are reliable, firm memorizers, and those who raised it are not of their rank except by agreement. Fiṭr b. Khalīfah narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās; Qabīṣah said this from him, while others said from Fiṭr, from ʿAṭāʾ, as mursal. Ibrāhīm b. Yazīd al-Khūzī also narrated this hadith, and there is disagreement about him: it is said from him, from ʿAmr b. Dīnār, from Ibn al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah; and it is said from him, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab, from ʿĀʾishah, and from al-Zuhrī, from ʿĀʾishah. Al-Khūzī is weak (ḍaʿīf), and none of these is sound.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationHe said: This is a mistake. It is only narrated from ʿAṭāʾ, from another, from Abū Hurayrah, as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf).

machine translationThe hadiths of Usāmah, Maʿqil b. Sinān and Abū Hurayrah are all defective (maʿlūl); none of them is established from the standpoint of transmission.
