The Messenger of Allah ﷺ travelled in Ramadan and fasted until he reached ʿUsfān. Then he called for a vessel of water and drank during the day so that the people could see him, and he broke his fast until he reached Makkah. He said: Ibn ʿAbbās used to say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fasted while travelling and he broke his fast, so whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break the fast.
