A man said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while she (the narrator) was listening: "I wake up in a state of janābah while I intend to fast." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I too wake up in a state of janābah while I intend to fast, so I wash, then I fast that day." The man said: "You are not like us; Allah has forgiven you what has preceded of your sins and what is to come." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said: "By Allah, I hope to be the one among you who fears Allah most and who knows best what I should guard against."
