  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThe ḥadīth of Ṭāwūs, according to them, is from Muʿādh and is not connected (ghayr muttaṣil). They say that Ṭāwūs did not hear anything from Muʿādh. Some people narrated it from Ṭāwūs, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from Muʿādh, except that those who narrated it as mursal are more reliable than those who gave it a connected chain (musnad).

    machine translationThis is mursal.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationʿAmr b. Dīnār and Ibrāhīm b. Maysarah narrate it. Ibn ʿUyaynah and al-Ḥasan b. Abī Jaʿfar narrated it from ʿAmr b. Dīnār, from Ṭāwūs, from Muʿādh. Likewise Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated it from Ibrāhīm b. Maysarah. There is disagreement about al-Thawrī: Ibn Wahb narrated it from al-Thawrī, from Ibrāhīm b. Maysarah, from Ṭāwūs, from Muʿādh b. Jabal. Wakīʿ narrated it from al-Thawrī, from Ibrāhīm b. Maysarah, from Ṭāwūs, that when Muʿādh came to Yemen he said, "I was not commanded about it with anything," so he narrated it as mursal. And whoever said "from Muʿādh," it is also mursal, because Ṭāwūs did not hear from Muʿādh.
