One of the governors sent me to Ibn ʿAbbās to ask him about the prayer for rain (istisqāʾ). Ibn ʿAbbās said: "What kept him from asking me himself? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out humble, submissive, in plain clothes, supplicating, and unhurried. He prayed two rakʿahs as he prays on the Eid, and he did not deliver a sermon like your sermon."

machine translation[The question of whether] the sermon was before the two rakʿahs or after them—he said: "I do not know." This indicates that Hishām did not memorize it.
