"Pray the witr, O people of the Qur'an, for God Almighty is Odd (witr) and loves the odd." A Bedouin said: "What is the Messenger of God ﷺ saying?" He said: "It is not for you nor for your companions."

- Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationThis is how a group narrated it from al-Thawrī. It is said that al-Thawrī did not hear it from ʿAmr, but heard it from a man, from ʿAmr. It is also narrated from ʿAbd al-Majīd b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Rawwād, from al-Thawrī, who mentioned ʿAbdullāh in it, but that is not preserved (maḥfūẓ). And the hadith, with the mention of ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd in it, is disconnected (munqaṭiʿ), because Abū ʿUbaydah did not meet his father.
