Dāwūd b. Qays narrated to us, from Zayd b. Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī. Muslim narrated it in al-Ṣaḥīḥ from Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Wahb, and the narration of Baḥr b. Naṣr seems to be more sound. A group also narrated the hadith as a connected chain from Zayd b. Aslam, along with Sulaymān b. Bilāl and Hishām b. Saʿd.

حديث أبي سعيد أرسله مالك عن عطاء وأسنده غيره فكان هذا اضطرابا فيه والتسليم عن ذلك أرجح
machine translationThe hadith of Abū Saʿīd: Mālik transmitted it as a mursal report from ʿAṭāʾ, while others transmitted it with a connected chain (musnad). This is therefore an inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in it, and yielding to that is more preferable.
