I was with the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and I heard him say: "Indeed, the friends of God are those who pray. And indeed, whoever completes the obligatory prayer, regarding it as a right that God has over him, and pays the obligatory zakat, and fasts Ramadan, and avoids the major sins..." A man said to him: "O Messenger of God, what are the major sins?" He said: "The major sins are nine, the greatest of them being associating partners with God, killing a believing soul, consuming usury, consuming the property of the orphan, slandering a chaste woman, fleeing from the battlefield, disobedience to parents, sorcery, and treating the Sacred House as lawful. Whoever meets God free of them will be with me in a Garden whose doors are of gold."
