Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, may God be pleased with him, stood up, praised God and extolled Him, then said: "O people, you recite this verse: 'O you who believe, take care of yourselves; those who go astray will not harm you when you are guided.' And I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'When people see the wrongdoer and then do not take hold of his hands, God is about to envelop them all in punishment.'"

machine translationThis is a hadith narrated by Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid from Qays. A group of trustworthy (thiqah) narrators narrated it from him, and they differed regarding it: some of them traced it back (musnad) to the Prophet ﷺ, and some of them made it a statement stopping at Abū Bakr (mawqūf). Among those who traced it to the Prophet ﷺ: ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr, Abū Usāmah, Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Umawī, Zuhayr b. Muʿāwiyah, Hushaym b. Bashīr, ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAmr, Yaḥyā b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Ghaniyyah, Marwān b. Muʿāwiyah al-Fazārī, Murajjā b. Rajāʾ, Yazīd b. Hārūn, ʿAbd al-Raḥīm b. Sulaymān, al-Walīd b. al-Qāsim, ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim, Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, Shuʿbah b. al-Ḥajjāj, Mālik b. Mighwal, Yūnus b. Abī Isḥāq, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muslim al-Qasmalī, Hayyāj b. Bisṭām, Muʿallā b. Hilāl, Abū Ḥamzah al-Sukkarī and Wakīʿ b. al-Jarrāḥ. They agreed on raising it to the Prophet ﷺ. Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah, Ismāʿīl b. Mujālid and ʿUbaydullāh b. Mūsā differed from them and narrated it from Ismāʿīl as a statement stopping at Abū Bakr. Bayān b. Bishr, Ṭāriq b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Dharr b. ʿAbdullāh al-Hamdānī, al-Ḥakam b. ʿUtaybah, ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr and ʿAbd al-Malik b. Maysarah narrated it from Qays from Abū Bakr as a statement stopping at him. All the narrators of this hadith are trustworthy (thiqah). It seems that Qays b. Abī Ḥāzim was at times energetic in narrating and so would trace it back, and at other times he was hesitant about it and so would stop it at Abū Bakr. This hadith was also narrated from Muḥammad b. Qudāmah al-Miṣṣīṣī from Jarīr from Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid from Ṭāriq b. Shihāb from Abū Bakr from the Prophet ﷺ as a raised report (marfūʿ), but that is an error (wahm) on the part of its narrator. The correct report from Jarīr is what was mentioned earlier, from Ismāʿīl from Qays.
