We were with Saʿd ؓ and we came upon a valley in which there were date palms whose fruit had ripened. He gave me two dirhams and said: "Buy us some fodder and dates." So I went but did not find anyone among the palms, and I returned to him and told him. He said to me: "If it pleases you to be a true believer, then do not eat a single date from the palms." So he spent the night, and our she-donkey spent the night, hungry.
