machine translationThe hadith of Sibāʿ b. Thābit, from Umm Kurz, is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) one.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationAbū Dāwūd said: This is the (correct) hadith, and the hadith of Sufyān is an error (wahm). The learned jurist, may God have mercy on him, said: Al-Muzanī narrated it in al-Mukhtaṣar from al-Shāfiʿī, from Sufyān, from ʿUbaydullāh b. Abī Yazīd, from Sibāʿ b. Wahb, from Umm Kurz. But al-Muzanī erred in it in two places. One is that all the other narrators narrated it from Ibn ʿUyaynah, from ʿUbaydullāh b. Abī Yazīd, from his father, from Sibāʿ. The other is that they said in it "Sibāʿ b. Thābit". Al-Ṭaḥāwī narrated it from al-Muzanī in the Kitāb al-Sunan, in one of the two places, correctly, as all the other people narrated it from Sufyān. And with God is success. Ibn Jurayj narrated it from ʿUbaydullāh b. Abī Yazīd, from Sibāʿ b. Thābit, that Muḥammad b. Thābit b. Sibāʿ informed him that Umm Kurz informed him. And it was narrated by another route from Umm Kurz.

  • Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyá b. Sharaf al-Nawawī
