That he was asked about the slaughtered animals of the Arab Christians, and he gave an opinion that the two of them related, which was that they are permissible, and he recited: {وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّهُمْ مِنْكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ}

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

    machine translationBut our companion kept silent about the name of ʿIkrimah, and Thawr did not meet Ibn ʿAbbās. The Shaykh, may God have mercy on him, said: By our companion he means Mālik b. Anas; he did not mention ʿIkrimah in most of the narrations from him, as if he did not consider it right to use him as proof. Thawr al-Daylī only narrated it from him, from Ibn ʿAbbās, so it is not appropriate to use it as proof, and God knows best. So said Ibn ʿAbbās in what ʿIkrimah narrated from him, and we only turned away from it because of the saying of ʿUmar and ʿAlī, may God be pleased with them both.
