A man from the Asbadhīs of the people of Bahrain - and they are the Magians of the people of Hajar - came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and stayed with him, then left. I asked him: "What have Allah and His Messenger decreed concerning you?" He said: "Evil." I said: "Stop! What is it?" He said: "Islam or death." He said: And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf - may Allah be pleased with him - said: "He accepted the jizyah from them." Ibn ʿAbbās - may Allah be pleased with him - said: "The people took the statement of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, and abandoned what I heard from the Asbadhī."
