Captives from al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Did they invite them to Islam?" They said: No. Then he said to them: "Did they invite you to Islam?" They said: No. He said: "Let them go their way until they reach their place of safety." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited these two verses: إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا وَدَاعِيًا إِلَى اللهِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَسِرَاجًا مُنِيرًا, and: وَأُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنُ لأُنْذِرَكُمْ بِهِ وَمَنْ بَلَغَ أَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ اللهِ آلِهَةً أُخْرَى to the end of the verse.
