The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not have anyone flogged for wine except at the end. He went out on the expedition of Tabūk, and during the night Abū ʿAlqamah b. al-Aʿwar al-Sulamī, drunk, came upon his room until he cut some of the loops of the room. He said: "Who is this?" It was said: "Abū ʿAlqamah, drunk." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Let a man from among you stand up to him, take him by the hand, and return him to his saddle."
