There were three effeminate men (mukhannathūn) in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Mātiʿ, Hadam, and Hīt. Mātiʿ belonged to Fākhitah bint ʿAmr b. ʿĀʾidh, the maternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He used to frequent the houses of the Prophet ﷺ and enter upon the women there. Then, when the Prophet besieged al-Ṭāʾif, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard him saying to Khālid b. al-Walīd: "If al-Ṭāʾif is conquered tomorrow, do not let Bādiyah bint Ghaylān slip away from you, for she comes forward with four and goes away with eight." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I did not think this wicked one understood such things. Let him not enter upon you after this." He said this to his wives. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned, and when he was at Dhū l-Ḥulayfah he said: "Let him not enter Madinah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Madinah, and he was spoken to about him, and it was said to him: "He is poor, and he must have something to live on." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set aside for him one day in every week, on Saturday: he would enter, ask for alms, and then return to his house. He remained so in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and of Abū Bakr, and ʿUmar ؓ. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ banished his two companions along with him: Hadam, and the other, Hīt.
