A man came to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) while he was in Syria, and told him that he had found a man with his wife. So ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) sent Abū Wāqid al-Laythī to the man's wife to ask her about that. He came to her while some women were around her, and he told her what her husband had said to ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him), and informed her that she would not be held to account by his statement. He kept prompting her with similar things so that she would retract, but she refused to retract and remained firm in her confession. So ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) ordered it concerning her, and she was stoned.
