( أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْأَصَمُّ، ثَنَا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ:
أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ أَخَذَ بِالْكُوفَةِ رِجَالًا يُنْعِشُونَ حَدِيثَ مُسَيْلِمَةَ الْكَذَّابِ يَدْعُونَ إِلَيْهِمْ؛ فَكَتَبَ فِيهِمْ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ؓ فَكَتَبَ عُثْمَانُ: أَنِ اعْرِضْ عَلَيْهِمْ دِينَ الْحَقِّ، وَشَهَادَةَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَمَنْ قَبِلَهَا وَبَرِئَ مِنْ مُسَيْلِمَةَ فَلَا تَقْتُلْهُ، وَمَنْ لَزِمَ دِينَ مُسَيْلِمَةَ فَاقْتُلْهُ، فَقَبِلَهَا رِجَالٌ مِنْهُمْ فَتُرِكُوا، وَلَزِمَ دِينَ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رِجَالٌ فَقُتِلُوا
