When the Ḥarūriyyah rebelled, while he was with ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (may God be pleased with him), they said: "There is no judgment except God's." He said: "A word of truth by which falsehood is intended. Indeed the Messenger of God ﷺ described certain people, and I recognize their description in these men: they speak the truth with their tongues, but it does not go beyond this—and he pointed to his throat. The most hateful of God's creation to Him are among them, among them a black man, one of whose arms is like the nipple of a breast." When he had fought them, he said: "Look." They looked but found nothing. He said: "Go back, for by God, I have not lied and I have not been lied to," twice or three times. Then they found him in a ruin, and they brought him until they placed him before him. ʿUbaydullāh said: "I was present for that affair of theirs and for what ʿAlī (may God be pleased with him) said about them."
