That al-Ṭufayl b. ʿAmr al-Dawsī came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "Do you want a strong fortress and protection?" He said: a fortress that belonged to Daws in the pre-Islamic period. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused that, because of what Allah had reserved for the Anṣār. Then when the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Medina, al-Ṭufayl migrated with him, and a man from his people migrated with him. They found the climate of Medina unhealthy, and he fell ill and became anxious. He took a broad-headed arrowhead and cut his knuckles with it, so his hands bled profusely and he died. Al-Ṭufayl saw him in his sleep in a good state, but saw him covering his hand. He said to him: "Why do I see you covering your hand?" He said: "I was told: We will not repair of you what you have ruined." So al-Ṭufayl related his dream to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Allah, forgive his hands as well."
