On the story of Hilāl b. Umayyah and his wife, and that the Prophet ﷺ made them perform the mutual imprecation (li‘ān), and that after the husband's imprecation she testified four times by Allah that he was among the liars. When it was the fifth, she was told: "Fear Allah, for the punishment of this world is easier than the punishment of the Hereafter, and this is the decisive one that makes the punishment obligatory upon you." She was silent for a while, then said: "By Allah, I will not disgrace my people." So she testified the fifth time that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was among the truthful. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ separated them, and decreed that her child would not be called by a father's name, that she would not be accused, and that her child would not be accused; and whoever accused her or her child, the prescribed punishment (ḥadd) would be upon him. And he decreed that she would have no lodging and no maintenance from him, because they were separating without a divorce and without her being a widow.
